Research summary
Sermorelin is GHRH(1-29) amide — the shortest fragment of growth hormone-releasing hormone that retains the full biological activity of the 44-residue native hormone. Everything beyond residue 29 proved dispensable for receptor activation, and sermorelin is the compound that established that. Unlike the CJC analogues it carries no stabilising substitutions, so it remains susceptible to dipeptidyl peptidase-4 cleavage and has a half-life of only a few minutes. In research terms that makes it the closest available proxy for native GHRH pharmacology, and it is used as the reference compound against which modified analogues are compared. Published in-vitro work characterises GHRHR binding affinity and cAMP accumulation; preclinical studies use it to examine feedback-intact, pulsatile growth hormone release and the somatostatin interplay that shapes it. Every batch is assayed by RP-HPLC and confirmed by LC-MS, with the analytical data published against the lot number.
Handling & reconstitution
Supplied as a lyophilised powder. Bring to room temperature before reconstituting. Add bacteriostatic water gently against the vial wall and swirl until dissolved. Sermorelin lacks the oxidation- and deamidation-resistant substitutions of the CJC analogues, so it is the more delicate of the GHRH compounds here — minimise time at room temperature during handling and avoid any agitation beyond gentle swirling. The solution should be clear and colourless.
Storage
Lyophilised: -20 °C, sealed, dry and protected from light. Reconstituted: 2–8 °C, used within approximately two weeks — the shortest window of the GHRH group. Sermorelin is prone to methionine oxidation and asparagine deamidation in solution, both of which proceed steadily even under refrigeration. Prepare what is needed and use it promptly rather than holding a reconstituted vial.
