Research summary
Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide based on tuftsin, the immunomodulatory tetrapeptide fragment of immunoglobulin G heavy chain, extended with the same proline-glycine-proline stabilising tail used in Semax. Tuftsin itself is rapidly degraded; the tripeptide extension protects it and extends its half-life sufficiently for research use. Its published profile is anxiolytic rather than stimulant, and the mechanism described in the literature is indirect. Research reports modulation of GABAergic signalling without direct benzodiazepine-site binding, effects on the balance of monoamine neurotransmitters, and influence on the expression of enkephalin-degrading enzymes — the last of which is proposed to underlie a portion of its activity. Its inherited immunomodulatory properties, including effects on interleukin-6 expression, form a parallel line of investigation that distinguishes it from conventional anxiolytics. Handling & reconstitution
Supplied lyophilised. Bring to room temperature before opening the vial. Reconstitute with bacteriostatic water introduced gently down the wall. Selank is highly water-soluble — the sequence carries no hydrophobic residues of consequence — and dissolves within seconds under a gentle swirl. The solution should be clear and colourless.
Storage
Lyophilised: -20 °C, sealed and dry. Reconstituted: 2–8 °C, used within approximately three to four weeks. Selank contains no methionine or cysteine, so it is not subject to the oxidative degradation that limits Semax; the practical constraints are enzymatic degradation from contamination and, over longer periods, hydrolysis. Sterile technique and refrigeration cover both. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycling.
