Research summary
GHRP-2 is a synthetic pentapeptide agonist at the growth hormone secretagogue receptor, developed as a more potent successor to GHRP-6. It shares the ghrelin-mimetic mechanism of the class but differs meaningfully in its side-activity profile: published work reports substantially weaker appetite stimulation than GHRP-6, while producing a stronger growth hormone response. It is not selective in the way ipamorelin is. Research documents measurable cross-activation of the corticotroph axis, with elevations in ACTH, cortisol and prolactin accompanying GH release — a confound in some experimental designs and the object of study in others. That combination makes GHRP-2 the standard comparator when characterising how far a newer secretagogue has succeeded in separating GHS-R1a signalling from the neighbouring pituitary axes. Each lot is analysed by RP-HPLC for purity and LC-MS for identity, with chromatograms published and verifiable against the batch number.
Handling & reconstitution
Supplied as a lyophilised powder. Bring the vial to room temperature before reconstituting. Reconstitute with bacteriostatic water added slowly against the inner wall and swirl gently. As a pentapeptide it dissolves quickly and is straightforward to handle. It contains tryptophan, so avoid prolonged exposure to direct light during preparation. The finished solution is clear and colourless.
Storage
Lyophilised: -20 °C, sealed and dry, protected from light. Reconstituted: 2–8 °C, used within approximately four to six weeks. GHRP-2 is among the more stable secretagogues in solution. Keep it shielded from light and avoid freeze-thaw cycling; if longer storage is needed, aliquot and freeze once.
